Liz on her graduation from St Mary's

On the 17th July our Daughter graduated from St Mary's College with a BA (Hons)
Sue and I are so proud of her and I decided she deserves pride of place on my website for a while.
She has also landed herself her first job teaching autistic children, which is something she has always wanted to do.
We congratulate her on all her achievements and wish her luck in her future career.
We love her very much.

My name is Barrie Tumbridge. I was born in Islington, North London in 1950. My education started at Raglan Primary School in Enfield Middlesex and then on to Rowantree Secondary Modern in Edmonton. In 1964 my parents divorced and I moved, with my Mother to Darlington Co Durham, where my education continued at Eastbourne School. When I left school in 1966 I returned to London, or Romford to be more precise. Realising that my education had been minimal, to say the least, I went to Barking College of Technology (now the University of East London) to study Chemistry. It was as I completed the course that I decided to change careers and I became a photographer. I worked for some time with ILFORD FILMS in Brentwood and then onto various studios until 1977 when I started my own business in Romford. During that time I became a fellow of the Master Photographers association and spent two years as President.

Liz and Antony 2001
Liz and Antony 2001

I have been married to Susan
since 1974. We have three children, Elizabeth (Liz, as she insist on being called) B.1979, Antony (or Ant as his friends call him, whatever happened to Tony?) B.1981 and David B.1988. Until this year both Liz and Antony were at St Mary's University in Twickenham. Today 17th July 2002, at Westminster Cathedral I watched Liz Graduate with a BA (Hons) in English, a very proud moment. Antony has decided what he is going to do but is taking a year out before he makes any final commitment. Either way Sue and I are quite proud of both of them for what they have achieved this far. Antony is also a rugby player and having played for Richmond for the past year will be looking to join a club closer to home. I found this photograph hidden in the house, I have never seen them this close before. I suspect Antony would not like it shown around to too many people. I have several photographs of all my children but I suspect Antony would feel the need to practice some of his rugby tackles on me if I displayed them

The boys
are members of the Brentwood Cathedral choir. Antony joined the choir when he was eight years old and has been involved ever since, although he sings very infrequently now as it clashes with his rugby commitments. David probably has another year in the choir before his voice breaks, which will be a great shame because he has a beautiful voice and there is no way of telling what will happen to it when it does break. The choir has produced several CDs over the years and appeared on television on more than one occasion. Both of them have been fortunate enough to have travelled to other countries when the choir has toured, and it has helped to keep them out of trouble, which is a concern for any parent when they are growing up. David is the most musical one of the family as he also plays the flute very well. Sue and I hope that he will carry the talent on to University when the time comes.....but who knows?

I was a photographer
for 25 years and ran a studio in Romford Essex, until 1991 when the Thatcher years caught up with me and it was no longer worth while continuing. I have put together a page of photographs, not meant to be part of this site but I thought someone might be interested. Sue and I are now Civil Servants working for the same Government Department . I still take the odd photograph and have even been known to do weddings, but only for friends and family, I don't have the patience for them any more. Unfortunately digital photography was not around when I was a practising photographer (which just goes to prove the progress that has been made in 10 years). I am only now experiencing what can be done with images on a computer. I will be experimenting over the next few years, who knows I may decide to go back to photography full time. On the other hand maybe I will just retire gracefully and pursue it as another hobby.
